Red River Insights - Top10 IoT startups
Red River Insights - February 2024
Dear Friends of Red River West,
Did you know that the growth of IoT (Internet of Things) devices could surge to 29 billion connected devices by 2027?
This remarkable growth not only underscores the IoT's broad impact, enhancing convenience and operational efficiency, but also its role as a powerhouse to collect extensive proprietary data. This data, collected from devices all around us, offers deep insights into consumer habits, environmental trends, and ways to streamline operations. Looking ahead, the possibilities for utilizing this data are limitless, for instance with the integration within LLMs.
Now, let’s talk about the movers and shakers in this space: from leveraging Low Earth Orbit satellites to ensure global IoT connectivity in the most remote areas, to revolutionizing asset management and operational processes for industries, here is a glimps at these innovative companies that are setting new benchmarks in their industries.
As you probably have guessed, this month, we decided to present you a focus on IoT Startups.
Using our data platform RAMP, we are proud to present you with a top10 of groundbreaking innovative startups in the IoT ecosystem!

(Ranking established on 13/02/2024)
As last month, this top proudly showcases companies from 10 different countries! This illustrates the dynamic and vibrant nature of the European ecosystem.
We've highlighted 5 key trends illustrated by these companies.
Satellite IoT Connectivity
This trend focuses on extending IoT connectivity through satellite technology to ensure global and continuous coverage, especially in remote or traditionally underserved areas. It is pivotal for industries requiring off-grid communication capabilities, such as maritime, logistics, and environmental monitoring. Sateliot is developing a constellation of satellites acting as cell towers from space to offer seamless connectivity for IoT devices beyond the reach of traditional cellular networks. Similarly, OQ Technology is working on a global satellite constellation dedicated to IoT and M2M communication, focusing on providing connectivity solutions in remote areas.
IoT for Asset Management and Operational Efficiency
Companies leverage IoT devices and platforms to enhance asset management, improve operational efficiency, and automate business processes. This encompasses the use of sensors and data analytics to monitor equipment health, optimize resource allocation, and automate maintenance and compliance tasks. ToolSense develops an asset operations platform that digitizes processes around assets for improved efficiency and productivity. proGrow offers a web platform that unifies industrial production information, facilitating data-driven decisions and operational improvements. Another example is Kontakt which focuses on optimizing healthcare operations by using location data to understand and predict the movement of people and things, translating this into specific, efficient workflows.
IoT Innovations for Smart Environments and Sustainability
IoT technologies are increasingly used to create smarter, more sustainable environments. That encompasses solutions for environmental monitoring, smart buildings, and waste management, aiming to protect natural resources and enhance the quality of urban living. Here we have two very different examples: Dryad develops IoT networks for early wildfire detection, contributing to forest conservation, while Sensoneo offers smart waste management solutions that optimize waste collection, reducing costs and environmental impact.
Cross-Industry IoT Platforms and Services
This trend emphasizes the role of versatile IoT platforms and services that cater to a broad spectrum of industries. These platforms offer customizable solutions, including data analytics, device management, and application development, to help businesses deploy and manage IoT applications efficiently. Onomondo for instance offers a flexible platform for managing IoT connectivity across borders, fitting seamlessly into this trend. Another example is Treon, which designs wireless edge products and provides a comprehensive platform that enables scalable IoT solutions for customers across industries such as industrial manufacturing, smart buildings, and logistics.
Advanced Wireless Technologies for IoT
Companies are developing and implementing cutting-edge wireless technologies designed to support the unique demands of IoT applications, such as low power consumption, long-range connectivity, and high-density device deployment. This includes innovations in radio frequencies, digital signal processing, and network protocols to enhance the performance and efficiency of IoT devices. Qualinx represents this trend with its focus on developing ultra-low-power radio products for IoT applications, using innovative Digital/Discrete-Time RF technology to enable high-quality, efficient wireless communication for portable and mobile IoT devices.
