Red River Insights - The Construction Tech top10
Red River Insights - April 2024
Dear Friends of Red River West,
While modern construction sites might still look traditional with manual bricklaying and tall scaffolds, they are actually undergoing significant changes. This $12 trillion industry has indeed been slower to embrace digital transformation compared to sectors like e-commerce or SaaS, where tools like GPT can be seamlessly integrated (see picture below!). Nevertheless, driven by a growing demand for infrastructure, a labor shortage, and increasing calls for data transparency, the industry is evolving. According to a McKinsey study, approximately $50 billion was invested in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) technology between 2020 and 2022, marking an 85% increase from the previous three years.
Construction technology refers to the use of advanced tools, systems, robotics and software in the construction industry to improve efficiency, safety, and accuracy throughout the building process. Construction Tech encompasses a wide range of technologies designed to streamline every aspect of construction, from project planning and design to building, operation, and maintenance.
Leveraging RAMP, we are proud to present you a top10 of groundbreaking innovative startups in Construction Tech (reminder: this is an algorithmic scoring, not a random human judgment)

We hope this sparks interesting conversations. If you have any comments or would like to suggest a startup that should be included, feel free to reach out to us. Abel, Chloé, Joseph and Olivier will be delighted to discuss these trends and rankings.
(Ranking established on 18/04/2024)
This illustrates the dynamic and vibrant nature of the Construction Tech ecosystem.
We've highlighted 5 key trends illustrated by these companies:
Robotics and Automation
Robotics and automation are used to improve efficiency, safety, and productivity in construction. This includes robots for on-site tasks, automated machinery, and robotic inspection solutions. Anybotics provides autonomous robotic inspection solutions for hazardous and complex industrial environments. Kewazo integrates robotic platforms to enable digital services on construction sites, focusing on scaffolding and labor efficiency. Another example is Monumental, which builds small, electric, and agile autonomous ground vehicles (AGVs) that navigate building sites independently, initially focusing on automating bricklaying processes
Sustainability and Environmental Solutions
The construction industry is adopting technologies to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability. This trend is driven by increasing environmental regulations and the industry's commitment to reduce its carbon footprint. Alcemy offers software to reduce CO2 emissions in cement and concrete production, achieving significant reductions in emissions while maintaining cost efficiency. Another Example is 011H that specializes in sustainable building development using advanced technology and innovative construction practices.
Digital Platforms and Software
Digital platforms are being used to streamline construction processes, improve communication, and enhance project management. These platforms can help with everything from project planning to invoicing. Vertuoza provides construction software to simplify estimates, work schedules, site follow-up, and invoicing, making construction projects more manageable and efficient. Metroc develops a market data platform to help construction companies find new customers and gain better market insights. Another example is Asap.Work that utilizes digital tools to offer more efficient and economical staffing solutions for the construction industry, aiming to improve stability for temporary workers.
Construction Site Security and Surveillance
Technologies focused on construction site security and surveillance have emerged to protect assets, equipment, and construction materials. These solutions often involve advanced surveillance systems and real-time monitoring. LivEye offers mobile security solutions for construction sites, commercial areas, and event sites, providing 24/7 monitoring and analysis with motion detection and video analysis capabilities.
Data Analytics and AI
Data analytics and AI are increasingly used to improve construction planning, track progress, and optimize resources. By collecting and analyzing data, companies can make better-informed decisions and improve overall project efficiency. Vizcab develops digital solutions using data sciences to support energy transition in building, allowing designers and builders to work with shared energy and carbon objectives.

Red River Yearly Offsite
Early April, we had the fantastic opportunity to bring the entire Red River West team together in Los Angeles. This gathering allowed us to dive deep into refining our fund strategy, envisioning our future, optimizing internal processes and advancing our data-driven strategy.
Los Angeles, known for its vibrant startup ecosystem, provided the perfect backdrop for strengthening our connections with local VCs and entrepreneurs. At Red River West, fostering robust relationships between Europe and the US is core to our identity, enhancing investment opportunities and entrepreneurial ventures across continents.
We were also thrilled to host our two new strategic partners during these sessions, whose identities we will be excited to share with you very soon!
Data-Driven Summit
Andre Retterath, partner at Earlybird, is organizing the first-ever Data-Driven VC Summit next week. We’re excited to announce that Olivier will be joining one of the panels. Make sure you don’t miss it!
Other speakers come from leading institutions such as Lightspeed, ICONIQ Capital, EQT Group, Moonfire, Stanford University, UCL, and more who will share their hands-on learnings from innovating at the forefront of venture capital.
RAISE Summit in Paris
The RAISE Summit in Paris featured global AI leaders and showcased transformative applications of Generative AI. At the summit’s AI hackathon, sponsored by Mistral AI, NVIDIA, Sia Partners, and Balderton, Maxime, our engineering lead, won second prize!
In less than 6 hours, Maxime and his team built a proof of concept for an AI agent helping open-source projects to create a multi-channel marketing strategy with minimal efforts by passing their github link along with a small brief. If you're interested, you can check their work here.
Congrats to them, and to the winner of course!
We’re very proud to support young talents at Red River West, especially within our tech team, which is enabling us to create one of the most advanced data-driven VC platform in the world.
